Half Marathon

Prepare to take a scenic journey on this 13.1-mile course that winds through the Santa Ynez Valley bordered by vineyards and the Sierra Madre Mountains. The course starts in downtown Solvang, then passes through the quaint town of Los Olivos, making its way up Corkscrew Hill before the beautiful run down Ballard Canyon to the grand finish on Copenhagen Drive in the heart of historic Solvang. Along the way you’ll wind through clusters of horse ranches, fruit orchards, lavender farms, and vineyards.

Half Marathon Relay

Split the distance and share the glory!  Leg 1 of the relay is 5.8 miles and is generally uphill while leg 2 is 7.3 miles and generally downhill (although a couple of climbs are included). At the Relay Transition in Los Olivos, the 1st runner will receive their medal, recovery goody bag, and will have access to transportation from the transition to the Festival after starting the race in Solvang. The 2nd leg runner will begin at the Relay Transition when their partner makes it to them and will finish the race at the finish line in Solvang.

EVENT INFORMATION

PARKING & SHUTTLES

There are multiple options for getting yourself to the start of the half marathon and relay.  Review the Parking & Shuttles page of our website for updated information.

AID STATIONS

For 2024:
Aid stations will be provided at the following locations: Miles 3, 5.8, 6.9, 8.3, 9.9 and 11.7
Water and Ghost Hydration will be provided at all aid stations on course.
An endurance gel will be provided at the aid station at Mile 8.3.

GEAR CHECK

Clear gear check bags will be available for pick-up at the race expo.  Luggage or large bags will not be accepted.

Gear check will be located in Solvang Park ahead of the race beginning at 5:30am.  While the start line is at the intersection of Atterdag Road and Laurel Ave, the main hub of pre-race activity will be at Solvang Park.

Gear check will stay in the same location and will not move during the race.  The finish line is adjacent to Solvang Park which will make it easy to pick up your gear after you finish.  Gear check will close at 11:00am.

POST-RACE WINE FESTIVAL

All participants aged 21 years of age or older have the option to purchase a ticket into the post-race wine festival featuring local wineries from Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara’s wine country.  The wine festival will be held in Solvang Park on Saturday, May 11th from 9:30am – 12:00pm.  Please visit the Wine Festival page of our website for additional information.

COURSE TIME LIMIT

The half marathon has a course time limit of 3.5 hours.  Participants will need to maintain a pace of 16 minutes, 10 seconds per mile in order to complete the race.  Due to the nature of the rural roads on course, if a participant falls behind the established pace time, they may be asked to join the sweep vehicle to be moved ahead on course.  They relay also have a course time limit of 3.5 hours.  Both legs of the relay will need to finish the half marathon distance in the allotted time or they may be asked to join the sweep vehicle to be moved ahead on course.

AWARDS

The top 3 male and female finishers in the half marathon will receive an overall award.

The top male and female finishers in each age group in the half marathon will receive an award.  Please see the age groups below:
20 & Under, 21-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+

The top relay team in the following divisions will also receive an award.  Please see the divisions below:

Awards must be picked up on-site at the Results tent.  There is no team competition at this event.
